I love to wait until after Christmas to buy the stuff I want. All shops have to clear their inventories and sale after sale is being announced. This way, I get to buy whatever it is I want at a much lower cost. You wouldn’t believe the amount of savings you could get. Last year, I bought my daughter’s LCD tv at less than its SRP. If you want more bang for your buck, post-Christmas shopping is the way to go.

At the end of every school year, our kids end up with dozens of textbooks. It would be nice nice to get back even just a few dollars instead of ending up with piles of textbooks that our kids have used through the years. Schools don’t usually change textbooks often and this gives me the opportunity to earn a little cash. I do sell textbooks to other mothers. This gives them a lot of savings. In fact, we organized an annual book sale to raise funds for our PTA.  You’ll be surprised at how much money you can make with selling old books.

I’m a DIY guy. One of my favorite pastime is to browse around hardware stores and checkout the latest tools, fixtures and accessories. Whenever there are promos or sales, I make it a point to check the items out. I was able to get some discount faucets last time around. All the bathrooms in our house now have new faucets. I hope they next time, they’ll offer discounts on tools.

Sales are generally crowd drawers. Just imagine the great stuff people can buy at very low prices. But going to a mall and confronting an unruly crowd can be quite daunting. Fighting for the item you want can really stress you out. Sales online is a totally different story. The only thing that will tire is your finger from clicking on every item you want. The Black Friday sale is always a big hit for netizens searching for great deals on stuff they want to have. Why risk life and limb in crowded malls when you can get better deals online? Just do what I do, shopping online is hassle-free. No time is wasted lining up and no parking fees that costs more than the item you bought. Everything you want is just a click away.

We’re in tough times and every cent counts. But that shouldn’t discourage us from buying stuff. We can’t simply stop buying or else the economy would collapse. What we need to do is get the most out of our money. Searching for sales isn’t hard. There’s one going on in the malls or even on the internet. The best thing to do is compare prices of whatever you want before deciding to buy it. I’ve always been prudent and I’ve always gotten the best deals. I don’t mind the legwork when it comes to making the most out of my savings.
