Our lives can be extremely hectic, filled to the brim with our daily tasks and everything else that comes along with them. We can get so caught up in our schedules that the days seem to run together leaving us frazzled and stressed out. Taking time out to reconnect within is a practice that can help us to slow down, relax and take a personal inventory of our lives to make sure that we are headed in the right direction.

Before Things Get Out of Hand
Much of life’s success is built on the concept that an ounce of prevention is worth a ton of cure. This well-known quote is true of many wide and varied situations. This is why it’s always wise to create checkpoints in our lives where we slow down and reflect inwardly. This helps us to rest both mentally and spiritually and refocus if we need to. This important step is often the difference between walking around exhausted and stressed out or remaining calm and centered.

Learning to Pace Ourselves
Rome wasn’t built in a day and the baby’s nursery won’t be either. We all have a long list of things we want to accomplish however trying to get everything done in a short period of time is unrealistic and stressful. Learning to pace yourself by breaking big tasks down into small manageable tasks is the best approach. Bite-sized tasks help you chip away at your goal little by little until you’ve reached it.
Making Changes Along the Way
As we take these much-needed breaks in our busy lives we have time to make changes as we see fit. If we notice that Monday’s are extremely difficult for us because of the different commitments we’ve made on this day we can shuffle our schedule to create more balance or let go of a few commitments that may not be as important as we thought they were. If we promised our son that we’d take him to get autographed NFL jerseys but see that time is short and there will be another opportunity to do this later in the week, we should reschedule.

One familiar quote states that life is short. This is true but it’s also quite long when you think of all the seconds, minutes, and hours that must be filled on a daily basis. Learn to take your time and slow down. This will help you to take the necessary measures to make sure that you are on the right path.

My eyesight is getting worse due to my glaucoma. I’ve lost my peripheral vision and depth perception. I miss a lot of things I used to do before. I’ve stopped bowling and cycling. I cannot read anymore which really affects me. I don’t even drive anymore. I really hate this. What makes me smile a little, is I’ve done everything I wanted to do.
