As usual, the weather forecasters got it wrong again. Last Tuesday night, typhoon Basyang struck the main island of Luzon. Forecasters predicted that it would hit the north. Lo and behold! With barelt two hours befor it hit, they changed their prediction. The typhoon would now hit Metro Manila direwctly. Two hours was just too late because by the time they made the new warning, the pwoer was already down. No radio or television transmission. Metro Manila was in total darkness and unaware of the devastation it faced.

Thank Go it was nowhere near Ondoy’s strength which devastated the entire Luzon island. Still it left more than two dozen dead and millions in damaged infrastructure. The next day created chaos but the efficient response of government quickly returned sanity. The light rails did not work as power was down most of the day. Isolated traffic jams were experienced by motorists.

Despite having limited resources, government agencies was able to reach typhoon victims. Even the coastguard was able to recover lost fishermen within the day. We’ve managed to get back on our feet quickly despite the downed power lines and downed cell sites.

Typhoon Basyang is only second typhoon to hit the country after we experienced El Niño. We have an average of 22 typhoons a year with the few last ones being the most dangerous. With the former administration depleting our calamity funds, I wonder how the current dispensation will address the coming disasters? I just hope that God be kinder to us and our new government.

Black eyes, eye bags  and wrinkles, I have them all. My friends now say I look old and haggard. It’s my eyes that give them this impression. I’m now more conscious of h0w I look. Months of stress and late nights working on a project made me look terrible. I’m in search of the best eye cream to improve my looks and confidence. Wanted: Eye Cream, give me back my looks!

My wife’s aunt sure remembers what I want. I really am fond of boots and that ’s what she bought me. She gave me a pair of polo boots and they are just great. They would go well with my leather jacket when I take my bike for some weekend riding. I can’t wait to break them in and I’m looking forward to making my cycle buddies turn green with envy. Now if only I could get the weather to cooperate so I can finally give them a spin.

My wife’s aunt and her daughter are visiting us. We have not seen them for almost a decade. I’m so surprised at how my wife’s cousin Kim is all grown up. She’s even taller than me. What really surprised me is how her aunt seemed not to have aged at all. He secret, wrinkle lotion. She uses it everyday and it really does work. He skin is as smooth as it can be. She told my wife that it’s her secret to a younger skin. It may not be the fountain of youth but it gets the job done.

With relatives visiting us, everyday is a feast. Our schedule is also messed up and I haven’t been getting the right exercise. It’s a good thing that I have my trusty fat burner supplement to make up for my lack of exercise. It’s nice to have family reunions but I need to maintain my weight. If I let this get out of hand, I might end up the blob I use to be. They’ll be flying out soon and we can get back our normal lives again.

It’s the 4th of July. In search of independence and national identity, the American fought for the right to become a nation. The United States of America was born and has become a great nation. To my American friends, Happy Independence Day. We Filipinos celebrate this as the Fil-Am Friendship Day. Americas legacy in the Philippines is not just independence but self-determination. We recently inaugurated a new president. Democracy is America’s gift to the Filipinos. Like the USA in its infancy faced many threats to democracy. Hopefully someday, we too will be able to make democracy work for the people. Happy Music Monday to all.

After months of juggling work, I can finally get some rest. Months of sleepless nights has finally come to an end. It has given me sleep disorder and has even affected my body clock. I was given natural sleeping pills to help me get the proper rest I need. I’ll also be able to spend quality time again with my family. So the till the next big project comes along, I’ll enjoy some R&R.
