At my uncle’s wake, I had the chance to talk politics with my other uncle. We’re both very much involved with a certain candidate but in different capacities. He works in the legal department while I do research for the media wing. With the campaign in full swing and just a few weeks before the elections, it’s nice to exchange notes on how our candidate is doing.

Politics has always been big in the Philippines, everybody has something to say. Views differ and strategies change. Our party is very different in many ways. It’s only the second time in Philippine politics that a reluctant candidate has been pushed by the people to run. What’s so inspiring is how the first few pesos for his campaign funding were donated by the people in the slums. This had inspired me to help in whatever way I can. Along with some media people and many bloggers looking for genuine change, we embarked on campaign of truth.

Our candidate’s integrity and credibility is beyond question while his rival’s in the gutter. We decided to stick to issues and rebuke traditional dirty tactics and black propaganda. I must admit that we have no funding and our desire for a better country is what drives us. Despite the billions being spent by our rival to make himself look good, he’s till lagging in the ratings.

On May 10, the people will finally decide is they want genuine change or will the Philippines brace itself for another six years of corruption. I hope our candidate wins. I’m tired of gambling my children’s future.
